PD uses phpBB forum software, and I think we would all agree, it works well for us. It looks like the last update was Christmas Eve in 2006. The folks who create this wonderful free software will be discontinuing support for version 2 this month, which means no more fixes or updates. It is time for an upgrade to version 3. That will come sometime in the next few weeks, whenever I find the time.

What does that mean for you, the user? I'll make an announcement the day before, probably in the middle of the week when traffic is lower. I will turn the board off, back everything up one last time, and then I will do the upgrade. You won't be able to log in during this time.

Cosmetically, the board will look different. The look and feel for this version 2 board is not available in version 3, so it will have to look a little different. The functioning will be pretty much the same. Logins, posts, PMs, all should be intact. All of this stuff is actually stored in a MySQL database, so the content really won't be affected.

There will be an announcement right after the upgrade, so read that first when the board comes back. This is not like landing a plane in the Hudson, but upgrades never go as smoothly as advertised.

Again, I'll make an announcement ahead of time. This should be a positive step for all of us.

Mozilla does. You should try it. :)
